At this time, we are implementing a simple pre and post test for those who take the training. During AY2024-2025 we will begin to collect data a few months after the training using both a survey and interviews.

From the first 123 participants, the data shows that:

  • 96% of participants agreed that the game/discussion was more engaging than a lecture on the topic
  • 95% of participants had fun
  • 95% said their empathy increased
  • 93% were able to relate to/connect to the feelings of the client’s story
  • 85% learned about a new community resource
  • 95% said their knowledge about the immigrant experience increased
  • 97% see the need to collaboration (people and agencies) in order to effectively serve immigrant families

And students have said the following:

  • “It’s important for people who live here to know more about the struggles and achievements of the immigrants”
  • “The game play gave us the ability to apply not only the knowledge that we have gained from our social work classes but also knowledge and skills gained from everyday life. We were not just listening to what is being said as we would in lecture, but rather applying.”
  • “[I will] advocate more”
  • “I am definitely going to treat the kids I work with with more care and attention to ensure that they are getting what they need, at least from me.”
  • “[I will] be more attuned to the multiple challenges some of my immigrant students might face”
  • “I can be more kind to people at my work place”
  • “It’s really important to work together and communicate”
  • “We have to be creative with resources. Maybe we are the resource to fill that void”
